More than 200 pounds of marijuana seized in search warrant raid

A 24-year-old man was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his residence in St. Petersburg, Florida. Police charged the man with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. His bail was set at $15,000, which he has already posted and been released.

Authorities were led to the man's apartment and his involvement in the drug distribution after police received a tip that the man had large quantities of marijuana in his home. Officers found and seized $87,000 in cash, three guns and 23 pounds of marijuana in the kitchen cabinets. The marijuana was packaged for individual sale.

The chief of police in St. Petersburg called the man a "significant marijuana distributor in the community." The marijuana the man received was reportedly mailed from Los Angeles, where information on the alleged illegal drug activity was turned over to police by postal inspectors in L.A.

A total of around 230 pounds of marijuana was identified by detectives. Cash totaling $168,000 was also identified by detectives. The street value of the 230 pounds of marijuana according to investigators is around $1.15 million. A watch valued at $55,000 was also seized from the man.

Police say that one of the most effective ways to battle drugs is to crack down on the distributors instead of the street level dealers. The chief said that for every street level dealer that is arrested, there are three or four who will replace him or her by the next day.

Charges such as possessing marijuana with the intent to sell carry significant prison sentences and fines. If you are charged with a similar crime, the sooner you have an experienced lawyer representing you, the better.
